Passion Is Sham. All Fake!
👋 Hi, this is Max with a free blog. In every issue, I cover challenges in Sales, Real Estate Investments (especially in Nigeria) and Mind Shift. If you’ve been forwarded this post, you can subscribe here.
Below is a total copy of a Facebook post one of my Mentees did after a brief discussion I had with him. Never knew it was this deep…
"𝙉𝙤𝙗𝙤𝙙𝙮 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙗𝙤𝙧𝙣 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙖 𝙥𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙖𝙣𝙮𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜. 𝙀𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙥𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙝𝙖𝙙 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙙𝙞𝙨𝙘𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙙."
My very awesome boss, Eze Chukwujindu Maximus, CEO of Win Realty Limited, made this wonderful remark while in a conversation with him.
For the few seconds that followed, I turned it over and over in my mind. In every direction I faced it in, it was the sound truth.
There was no gainsaying. I didn't come out of my mother's womb passionate about anything worthwhile.
For one, I remember that as a child, I had a lot of love for playing football.
I'd play a rough 'one tap' game at school, return home with my school uniforms soiled, and sneak out after stashing away the dirty uniforms, to play 'Monkey post' with the boys in our yard.
This was a five-year-old me who needed a lot of sense, and my mother did not fail to make sure that I got some.
When she saw that football was taking my head, and learned that overplaying was the reason behind my poor grades in class, it didn't take her more than three rounds of proper caning to get my brain back to factory reset
The days that followed saw me washing my uniforms after school, taking a siesta like a proper human being, sitting down to do my assignments, and taking strict Math/English lessons from my mother.
In a few months, I lost my passion for football and discovered a new passion for reading the many storybooks I had begun to borrow from the girls in my class.
Reading books was how I discovered a passion for writing. Between 2019 and 2020, I tried my hands as a content writer, did a lot of ghostwriting, wrote articles and articles and got frustrated.
After Sapa sat me down on a Saturday morning, promising to deal with me, I decided that it was time to leave my comfort zone and learn something more prospective. That was how I started out to learn design.
I didn't feel passionate when I took my first courses in Design elements and principles on the Great Learning website.
However, after months of practising designing flyers on my mobile using Pixellab and Canva, I became obsessed. I found myself spending more time practising design than I spent doing any other thing. I discovered a new passion.
Every story I've shared here, I've done with a single objective. It is possible that there is something you know that you need to do, but you have little or no passion for. It might be something like learning a skill, losing weight, pursuing a career, or building a better relationship with God.
I'll just tell you that passion is often discovered when we get into the process.
Put your hands on that plough if it is something you know that you need to do. The passion will come after you start.
With love, Chebem!
Wow, just wow!
Never knew the little, mindless chit-chat I had with Chebem hit home this hard!
Thanks for reading and don’t forget to share.
